William,
I am sure that your job can be hard at times, so thank you for your commitment to Central Oregon.
I am writing in regards to the Thornburgh Resort construction and it’s effect on the Whycus Creek water shed.
Please help stop the construction of this resort because it is not a sustainable project and will stress our fragile water
ways.
There is already a major water crisis in Central Oregon. The Arnold Irrigation district does not have enough water to
supply Bend residents as it is.
This resort will be pulling water from an even more water scarce area. How can this be a good idea?
Whychus creek is an area I cave backpacked around many times. It is a vein of life for bulltrout and many other sensitive
animals in our ecosystem. It is critical that it is protected and this water is used for life, not flushing toilets and irrigating
the lawns of golf courses or whatever they are planning at this new resort.
I have lived in Central Oregon for 27 years and it is heartbreaking watching the damage people have been doing to this
area. From trash dumping in the Deschutes from all the floaters, to Wickiup Reservoir becoming a mud pit so that the
Deschutes River turns a toxic dead green color because there is no more water flowing into it, to apartment complexes
being built so close to the water that car oil and radiant heat negatively impact the fish.
If farmers in Central Oregon have to think about closing our local food supply because of lack of water, why would we
install another resort that sucks up their water too?!
The long term effects of water usage will kill animals, make our area non food independent, contribute to dry trees and
plants that are easy to burn in forest fires. It is extremely upsetting that this area is coming to this.
The earth has it limits. We are already stressing our home out enough. Please stop this project or push this resort to pull
water from an untapped resource.
To our shared success,
Amanda Osteen
