RESOLUTION NO. 87 -052
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Deschutes
County, Oregon, acknowledges that recycling saves valuable
energy, natural resources and space in our landfills and creates
jobs for Oregonians working in industries dependent on a supply
of used materials for manufacturing; and
WHEREAS, recycling also contributes to Oregon's role as one
of the Nation's leading states in terms of environmental aware-
ness and natural beauty; and
WHEREAS, recycling facilities have been placed in service at
Knott, Negus, Fryrear and Southwest landfills, with the Knott
Landfill recycling facility being open seven days a week; and
WHEREAS, on -route collection of recyclables from residences,
businesses, and offices is provided within the Bend and Redmond
urban areas; and
WHEREAS, Deschutes County produces recyclable waste mate-
rials every day in the normal course of doing business; now,
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF
DESCHUTES COUNTY, OREGON, as follows:
Section 1. That the week of October 3 - 10, 1987, is
hereby proclaimed Recycling Awareness Week.
Section 2. That the Board of County Commissioners of
Deschutes County, Oregon, hereby declares it to be the policy of
Deschutes County that recyclable waste materials produced in the
course of County activities be recycled whenever and wherever
practicable.
