LIBRARY FACILITIES IMPROVEMENT PLAN Jim Scheppke, State Library Development Administrator; Ralph Delamarter, Deschutes County Librarian; and Betty Kramer, Deschutes County Library Board of Trustees presented a report on the Deschutes County Library Facilities Improvement Plan. Mr. Scheppke reported that the libraries in Deschutes County were the second most heavily used libraries in the State of Oregon, and that the Bend and Redmond facilities were at capacity and needed new buildings. Sisters has a 3,000 sq. ft. facility being built this year, and LaPine has adequate space but needs improvements. He projected the cost of the two new facilities (excluding the site and parking costs) to be $4.9 million for the Bend Headquarters library and $1.6 million for the Redmond Branch.
