WHEREAS, Oregon is the Nation's leading timber- producing
state; and
WHEREAS, more than one -third of Oregon's economy is limited
to the timber industry; and
WHEREAS, over 60 percent of Oregon's forest land is publicly
owned; and
WHEREAS, one hundred and thirty five million trees are
planted in Oregon each year; and
WHEREAS, many Oregon counties, including Deschutes County,
depend on forest and timber revenues to provide vital services
such as roads and schools; and
WHEREAS, trees are an important ingredient to Deschutes
County's economy by providing basic raw materials to our forest
products industry; and
WHEREAS, the Oregon legislature has designated Arbor Week,
April 2 - 8, 1989, as a special time to focus our attention on
trees and the environment; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF
DESCHUTES COUNTY, OREGON, as follows:
Section 1. That the week of April 2 - 8, 1989, be desig-
nated as Arbor Week within Deschutes County, Oregon.
