1989-18696-Minutes for Meeting July 17,1989 Recorded 7/18/19890096 0393 k 89-1869 WORK SESSION MINUTES DESCHUTES COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS July 17, 1989 Chair Prante called the meeting to order at 10:00 a.m. Board members in attendance were Dick Maudlin, Tom Throop and Lois Bristow Prante. Also present were: Dennis Maloney, Juvenile Department Director; Larry Rice, Public Works Director; Mike Maier, County Administrator; Al Driver, Transportation & Solid Waste Director; Dave Peterson, Data Process Director; Oscar Bratton, Assessor. BEND DEMOLITION LANDFILL PLAN Before the Board was approval of a plan by the Public Works Department to prepare the completed area of the County-owned Bend Demolition Landfill for transfer to Bend Metro Parks and Recreation. The County would allow area citizens free pick up of dirt currently stockpiled at the site with the remainder of the dirt used for leveling the site. Larry Rice said the County site work would take place in the near future since Bend Metro Parks and Recreation would like to use the area next spring for ball fields and a BMX bike area. The Board agreed that the Public Works Department should proceed with its plan. COUNTY EMPLOYEE HEALTH INSURANCE COVERAGE Before the Board was approval of Blue Cross of Oregon's bid to provide health insurance coverage for Deschutes County Employees. Blue Cross bid $1,157,832 which was approximately a 10% increase above the current rates paid to Pacific Health and Life. Blue Cross's bid was $50,000 less than the Pacific Health and Life bid and $63,000 less than the KSMB bid. MAUDLIN: I would move that we accept the proposed medical, dental and vision coverage program from Blue Cross/Blue Shield effective 8-1-89. THROOP: I'll second the motion.
