WHEREAS, companion animals (dogs and cats) are an integral
part of our community; and
WHEREAS, pet overpopulation is a problem in Deschutes County
as evidenced by the eight animals killed each day by euthanasia;
and
WHEREAS, pet overpopulation is an individual and community
responsibility; and
WHEREAS, a task force has been formed to suggest alternative
methods to the killing of unwanted animals in Deschutes County;
now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF
DESCHUTES COUNTYr OREGON, as follows:
Section 1. That the Deschutes County Board of Commissioners
resolves to support the formation of the Companion Animal
Overpopulation Task Force to identify the pet overpopulation
problem and to recommend alternative methods to euthanasia for
dealing with pet overpopulation.
