WHEREAS, Marvin Russell has been a resident of LaPine since 1939
and has played a leading role in making LaPine the thriving community it
is today; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Russell has given of his time, talent, energy, and
finances to make LaPine and Central Oregon a better place to live
through many efforts such as helping to bring fire protection to the
area, fostering economic development through being a major LaPine
employer and helping to establish the LaPine Industrial Park; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Russell has provided inspiration to those around him
by turning tragedy into triumph as he rebuilt two mills he lost to fire,
and leading efforts for change and improvement on behalf of the
community of LaPine; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Russell has distinguished himself among his neighbors,
friends, and peers on a local, state, and national level; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Russell brings a historical perspective to his keen
insights for the future of LaPine and Central Oregon; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF DESCHUTES
COUNTY, OREGON, as follows:
Section 1. That Deschutes County designates and proclaims April
27, 1994 as "Marvin Russell Day" in Deschutes County in recognition of
the exemplary citizenship, leadership, and civic contributions Mr.
Russell has made and continues to make to Central Oregon.
