1994-19446-Resolution No. 94-048 Recorded 5/5/199494-19446 BEFORE THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF A Resolution Proclaiming the Month of May, 1994 as Mental Health Month. REVIEWED DESCHUTES i"vdi� 0135-1544 RESOLUTION NO. 94-048 ; WHEREAS, more than 40 million Americans of all ages are affected by some form of mental illness, and fully seven in ten Americans believe that the incidence of has increased in the past 20 years; and WHEREAS, people with mental illness comprise the most prevalent health problem in America today; and WHEREAS, the stigmas associated with mental illness help to foster fear, prejudice, and misunderstanding about the disease; and WHEREAS, discrimination against people with serious and chronic mental illness is a contributing factor in homelessness and other social problems; and WHEREAS, persons who experience mental illness want to work, contribute to society, live their lives in fully integrated community settings, and have real independent choices; and WHEREAS, there is a commitment in Oregon to provide the best health care possible to all citizens including people with mental illness; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF DESCHUTES COUNTY, OREGON, as follows: Section 1. The Board of County Commissioners of Deschutes County, Oregon hereby proclaim May, 1994, as Mental Health Month in Deschutes County and encourage all citizens to strive in their communities to dispel the myths about mental illness, and destroy the stigmas associated with people who have mental and emotional disabilities.
