TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM FOR CENTRAL
OREGON
RESOLUTION NO. 96-063
WHEREAS, Deschutes County Board of Commissioners having received the information
requesting the three counties, Crook, Deschutes and Jefferson, apply for a Grant to be submitted by
COIC for a transportation planner at $50,000 a year and a transportation facilitator at $25,000 with
funds for said positions to come from a grant from the Oregon Department of Justice's Petroleum
Antitrust Settlement Grant Program, and
WHEREAS, the need for greater cooperation between city, county and state government
needs to be addressed as well as the need for transportation planning at a regional level, and a need
for intra-modar service between and connecting the cities within the region to move workers,
tourists, the elderly and the disabled on a dependable and affordable fixed route system, and
WHEREAS, cities, counties and ODOT need to work cooperatively to reduce congestion,
and small cities and counties don't have the expertise to fully engineer many projects; and
BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED that Deschutes County Board of Commissioners go on record
as supporting this grant application, which COIC will submit, on facilitating strategy and planning of
a regional transportation system for the entire Central Oregon region. Funds for the position would
come from the Oregon Department of Justice's petroleum Antitrust Settlement Grant Program.
