RESOLUTION NO. 96-072
WHEREAS, Deschutes County wishes to encourage residents to use
alternative modes of transportation to help lessen the effects of
increased automobile traffic and air pollution; and
WHEREAS, the County encourages all its citizens to walk or
bike to promote the health benefits of those activities; and
WHEREAS, the County has historically been proactive in its
support for commute modes that provide an alternative to the use of
the single -occupant automobiles; and
WHEREAS, the County acknowledges that cycling, walking,
telecommuting or carpooling to work are successful commute modes
that help alleviate traffic congestion, improve air quality, and
decrease fuel consumption; and
WHEREAS, the County desires to set an example for the region
by participating in the 1996 Commute Options Week and calls on
other local agencies to join in the effort to communicate to all
citizens the importance of reduced traffic, cleaner air and a
healthier lifestyle;
BE IT RESOLVED, the Board of County Commissioners for
Deschutes County, Oregon, hereby proclaims June 3-9, 1996, to be
"Commute Options Week" in Deschutes County and urges all citizens
and businesses to participate.
