1996-36586-Resolution No. 96-131 Recorded 10/3/19969F-3S%E]#SG 15 }-2794 BEFORE THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF DESCHUTES COUNTY, OREGON t -c 0-1 A Resolution Proclaiming * k October, 1996, as Breast * Cancer Awareness Month. * o RESOLUTION NO. 96-131 WHEREAS, 1 out of 9 women will develop breast cancer- ring the course of her lifetime; WHEREAS, approximately 40 Oregon women are diagnosed with breast cancer each week; and WHEREAS, in 1994, 77 women and in 1995, 75 women in Central/Eastern Oregon were diagnosed with breast cancer which affected our families and our community; WHEREAS, the five year survival rate for early state (localized - not spread to other tissues) breast cancer has risen from 78 percent in the 1940's to about 96 percent in 1996; and WHEREAS, new partnerships are emerging between St. Charles Medical Center/Sara Fisher Project/American Cancer Society, health care providers, community organizations and Crook, Deschutes, Grant Harney, Jefferson, N. Lake and Wheeler County Health Departments creating the Women's Health Coalition of Central and Eastern Oregon to assure education, early detection, and screening services to women; and WHEREAS, in 1996/97 this partnership is offering 300 free screenings, mammograms and education to promote early detection specifically among women forty and over who are uninsured or underinsured; and IT IS HEREBY PROCLAIMED, that the Deschutes County Board of Commissioners hereby recognizes the month of October, 1996, as Breast Cancer Awareness Month and urges all County citizens to fight Breast Cancer with their families and communities through education, use of yearly detection measures and encouragement of further research.
