WHEREAS, our nation's public libraries play a vital
people of all ages connect with books, computers, and
they need in order to learn and to grow;

WHEREAS, Deschutes County libraries offer preschool and toddler
storytime and programs to help children learn and to enjoy reading;
WHEREAS, libraries provide reference resources and access to the
information superhighway for all people; and
WHEREAS, children and their families view librarians as friends and
guides available to answer questions and to assist them;
WHEREAS, libraries countywide are celebrating National Library Week
with the `Great American Read A -Loud"; and
WHEREAS, the Redmond Library is hosting the Susan B. Anthony: The
Napoleon of the Movement, a dramatic presentation that celebrates the
woman who changed the political status of American women;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that we the Deschutes County
Commissioners do hereby proclaim April 13-19, 1997, to be National
Library Week in Deschutes County and encourage all county residents to
visit a library and encourage adults to take a child to a library this
week to help them connect to a wonderful world of learning, adventure
and imagination.
