BEFORE THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
OF DESCHUTES COUNTY, OREGON
A Resolution Supporting the Deschutes
County 9-1-1 County Service District * RESOLUTION NO. 2003-017
Levy to Fund Essential Services in
Deschutes County
WHEREAS, the Deschutes County 9-1-1 County Service District is the
central answering point and dispatching service for all twenty public safety
agencies in Deschutes County; and
WHEREAS, there is no other public safety dispatch center in Deschutes
County; and
WHEREAS, the centralized 9-1-1 communications system has proven to be
both cost-effective and efficient, enabling dispatchers to send personnel from
multiple agencies to the site of an emergency; and
WHEREAS, in 2001, 9-1-1 dispatchers answered more than 250,000 calls
for assistance and, as necessary, were able to provide emergency medical
instructions to callers until emergency personnel arrived at the scene; and
WHEREAS, based on the foregoing, the Deschutes County Board of
Commissioners believes that the Deschutes County 9-1-1 County Service District
is critical to the safety of all residents of Deschutes County; and
WHEREAS, the cost of this local option tax, which would maintain
operations at current levels, would be 9 cents per thousand dollars of assessed
value, resulting in a tax impact of $9.00 on a property valued at $100,000;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS OF DESCHUTES COUNTY, OREGON, as follows:
The Deschutes County Board of Commissioners strongly supports the
Deschutes County 9-1-1 County Service District levy, and encourages every voter
in Deschutes County to cast his or her ballot by March 11, 2003. The Board also
acknowledges and thanks the members of the 9-1-1 County Service District for
making Deschutes County a safer place in which to live.
