RESOLUTION NO. 81-041 Ck
WHEREAS, Present proposals provide that part of Bend will
join a senate district which reaches as far south as the California
border while the remainder of Bend will be included in a senate
district which will extend to the Columbia River; and
WHEREAS, Geographical distances and widely divergent economic
interests represented in the contemplated redistricting are
unrealistic and will fail to provide Bend and Deschutes County with
appropriate legislative representations; and
WHEREAS, Responsible legislative districting should, whenever
possible, insure regions of similar economic and industrial interests
and which are geographically reasonable—
BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE DESCHUTES COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
Endorse Plan C which embraces Deschutes, Jefferson, Crook and Wheeler
Counties in a single senate district.
Such a district will include approximately 88,000 people for one
senate seat and two house seats, and will represent a common geographic
area with similar economic interests.
