Daly, Tom De Wolf and Dennis R. Luke. Also present were Mike Maier, County Administrator; County Administrators from Jackson, Lane and Washington Counties; and, for a portion of the meeting, Susan Ross, Commissioners' Office and MarkPilliod, Legal Counsel. No representatives of the media or other citizens were present. The meeting began at 8:45 a.m. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss how these three other counties structure the administration workload of their organizations. With Mike Maier's upcoming retirement, it was felt it is time to review how Deschutes County is structured, since it has become a much larger and more complex entity during the past twenty -plus years. All three counties have an organizational structure that is somewhat different than that of Deschutes County. In short, the County Commissioners of the three entities are much less involved in the day to day operation of their organization. Much of the operational workload is handled by directors who report to the County Administrator, leaving the Commissioners to focus primarily on policy making issues. The Commissioners suggested that Mike Maier investigate the possibility of hiring a consultant who specializes in County organization work to determine what kind of organizational structure would best benefit Deschutes County. Being no further discussion, the meeting adjourned at 11:50 a.m. Minutes of Special Meeting Tuesday, January 25, 2005 Page 1 of 2 Pages DATED this 25th Day of January 2005 for the Deschutes County Board of Commissioners.
