Daly, Tom De Wolf and Dennis R. Luke. Also present were Mike Maier, County Administrator; and Dan Peddycord, Jeanie Young, Kathy Christensen, Shannon Dames and Muriel DeLaVergne-Brown, Health Department. No representatives of the media or other citizens were present. The meeting began at 3: 30 p. m. The following items were discussed. 1. Introduction: ■ Shannon Dames, Communicable Diseases, and Kathy Christensen, Family Planning, were introduced. 2. Vector Control - Sunriver Homeowners: Request to BOCC to support renewal of contract with Four Rivers Vector Control District and Sunriver. 3. West Nile Virus Update: ■ The Health Department is working on ramping up for the next season. Two approaches are being considered: 1) $10,000 for WNV surveillance; or 2) $2,000 for testing. ■ Dan Peddycord will host a Town Hall meeting in La Pine to find out the community's level of interest. The approach is to let the citizens of La Pine vote on it. ■ The Health Department will do public education projects again this year. ■ The cost estimate for limited Vector Control under a County contract is: $451000 - $605000. ■ Consideration of District formation of petition by the residents of South County. Pregnancy Prevention Services - Impact of Loss of Revenue: Jeanie Young and Kathy Christensen ■ This program has lost funding. Teen pregnancy and STD cases have gone up. ■ FPEP has changed the way they handle funding. Also, the number of Hispanic clients has increased. ■ The Health Department lost its Health Educator position. ■ Community Outreach is essential, and the Department is unable to meet its requirements. ■ There is a need in schools for this education because they are not meeting their requirements. The schools are very open to having Health Department staff come in and work with them. ■ The Health Department is working on partnering with a new FQHC (Federally Qualified Health Clinic) for a Teen Clinic. ■ AmeriCorp volunteer Maureen Sweeney applied for and received a grant to have a speaker come for Community Parent Night to talk to Middle School and High School parents on how to discuss sexuality with their kids. The event will take place in May. 5. School Immunizations - Exclusion Notice Letters Issued: The Health Department is advertising that parents need to have their children immunized by February 16. 6. HealthyStart Prenatal Service Contract: ■ The contract for Obstetrical Medical Services needs to be renewed by July 1, 2005. 7. WIC & MCH Management & Staffing Transition Plan: ■ The restructured Women and Infant Children program is to fall under the MCH Program Manager. ■ The Department hired a WIC Supervisor, Laura Spaulding. The Department will need to hire an MCH Manager when Elaine Severson retires, and appoint or hire an MCH lead. 8. La Pine Safety Net Primary Care: ■ The Department received a $30,000 grant for the School Based Health Center that Elaine Severson is now working on. ■ The Department is asking for the Board to support new funding in Governor's budget. Public Health Advisory Board: ■ Community Health Initiatives being reviewed are: • Obesity and related illness. • Oral Health for Children - water fluoridation: HB 2025 The next PHAB meeting is Tuesday, February 22, in the Stan Owen Room at the Health Department.
