WHEREAS, Ordinance No. 81-053 provides a mileage allowance of
$.20 per mile, except that if a County vehicle is available a
mileage rate of $.10 per mile is allowed; and
WHEREAS, it is the Board of County Commissioners' intent to
encourage the use of private vehicles in lieu of County owned and
maintained vehicles; and
WHEREAS, it appearing that $.30 is an amount more reasonably
calculated to reimburse employees for the expense of using their
private vehicle; now, therefore,
THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF DESCHUTES COUNTY,
OREGON, ORDAINS as follows:
Section 1. That Section 8.22, Mileage Allowance, is amended
to read as follows:
"Mileage Allowance. A Department Head may authorize the
use of a privately owned vehicle, in lieu of a County
owned vehicle, for use within the scope of an employee's
employment with the County. If such authorization is
granted, mileage for such use of a private vehicle shall
be paid at a rate of $.30 per mile. The mileage rate
provided herein, shall be reviewed and adjusted annually
by Resolution of the Board of County Commissioners."
Section 2. This Ordinance being necessary for the immediate
preservation of public peace, health and safety, an emergency is
declared to exist, and this Ordinance takes effect on its passage.
