Deschutes Service Center - 1300 NW Wall St., Bend • Project Wildfire is a great organization for Deschutes County and the work is rewarding personally and I believe provides outstanding customer service to the citizens. For the past year and now for 2006, I will serve as chairperson for Project Wildfire, the consequences are that approximately 20% of my time goes to this effort. I'm not suggesting this change just that the BOCC and County Administrator are aware of the program of work impacts and not surprised by the workload. • ODF Agreement with Project Wildfire-ODF is planning to contribute approximately $25,000 to Project Wildfire over the next 18 months for Community Fire Planning and Fire Free campaign, and we are finalizing an existing agreement with Rural Fire District 2 to include ODF. This will provide essentially 100% staffing of the Project Coordinator position. Currently Deschutes County provides $30K/year (Title III), Fire District 2 and Bend Fire contribute $10K for the contracted position. • New Neighborhood Thinning-the work is scheduled to begin later this week or early next week on 120 acres of lodgepole pine thinning in La Pine at the New Neighborhood Project, Ed Morrison is the Contractor. Funded by National Fire Plan $'s. • La Pine High School has also been working on open space trails and thinning; we have coordinated two efforts with the high school forestry program and the Heart of Oregon program which is also funded by National Fire Plan $'s. We will provide work for both efforts until June at the New Neighborhood. We've had some media coverage from the Newberry Eagle but will involve the Bulletin for future coverage. • With a combination of Deschutes County Forestry and Project Wildfire grant applications it appears we will be awarded $75k for Community Fire Plans, $100K for Fire Free and $150K for fuels treatment for elderly and economically challenged households. $325K in total that we'll be developing budgets for soon and these grants can be extended past one year.
