Special Meeting, Board of Commissioners
Appointment of Assessor to replace N. J. Donat
Conference Room A, Courthouse Annex
All Commissioners in attendance.
Chairman Montgomery called the meeting to order at 10:00 a.m. and announced
that Ike Donat, County Assessor had resigned March 2, 1977 to be effective
March 15, 1977. The responsibility of appointing a replacement is the job
of the Board of Commissioners. Chairman Montgomery continued that twelve
people had expressed interest in the position. The Commissioners narrowed
the field to four, of which they personally interviewed three. After more
deliberation they narrowed the field to two people, then they made their
decision based on who would be the best person to replace Mr. Donat. They
also approached the Republican Central Committee for their input and coop-
eration.
Chairman Montgomery reminded all applicants and interested persons, that
in just over a year they can file for the position of County Assessor and
run for the office.
Commissioner Grubb moved that the Commission appoint Mr. Ray Bennett as the
Assessor to replace Mr. Donat. Commissioner Young seconded the motion with
the following vote: Don Grubb, aye; Abe Young, aye; and Bob Montgomery, aye;
motion carried. Mr. Bennett was not able to be present as he was out of
town, but he has assured the Commissioners he will accept the position.
Chairman Montgomery thanked Mr. Donat for over 10 years of service to Deschutes
County and wished him well in his retirement.
At this time, Commissioner Grubb moved that Mr. Ike Donat be appointed Advisor
to Deschutes County in the Matter of Assessment. This position is a non paying
position. Commissioner Young seconded the motion with the following vote: Don
Grubb, aye, Abe Young, aye; and Bob Montgomery, aye; motion carried. The Com-
mission thanked Mr. Donat for his willingness to serve in this capacity to assist
his successor and the county in the transition period.
There being no further discussion, meeting was adjourned.
