BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
MAY 6, 1980 - BUDGET MEETING - Proposed 6% budget
Chairman Cleveland called the meeting to order at 7:35 p.m. with the
following people present:
Chairman Wally Cleveland
Jan Wick, Budget Board Member
Jack Oliver, Budget Board Member
Commissioner Abe Young
Commissioner Robert Paulson
Commissioner Clay Shepard
Mike Maier, Director of Administrative Services
Dave Cash, The Bulletin
Jane Kirkpatrick, Family Counseling
Hiltje Hubbard, Medical-Nursing
Marybeth Arbuckle, Deschutes County Library
Kathy Walsh, Library Board
Ed Fisher, Assessor's office
Jill Thompson, Assistant County Counsel
Jo-Marie Bonwell, Recording Secretary
Commissioner Paulson explained the sheets that he had handed out to
the budget board. He then asked Mike Maier to go ahead with the
explanation as he has worked with it more. Mike explained the
different figures and what they meant to the respective departments.
Mike went over the adjustments made as of the meeting last night
and the extra money that came up as of keeping the elected officials'
salaries stable. Jan Wick stated that he felt that the revenue
figures are very high and thought that they should be watched very
closely. Jan suggested that the budget board meet quarterly to keep
up-to-date on how the county is getting along and be able to make
suggestions as to how the budget can be stretched. The others on
the board felt that this suggestion had merit. Jan felt that the
revenue figures on a quarterly basis would be readily available to
the board if they were to ask for them. There was further discussion
about the budget and where the funds would come from, further matches
from the state and the county and grants etc.
MOTION: JAN WICK moved that the Budget Board recommend-,to
the County Commissioners to approve the 6% budget
as presented with the following exceptions: that
the District Court Office Assistant, a Sanitarian,
Treasurer, Corrections Nurse, Assistant County
Counsel and the corrections to the County Library
budget be included in the 6% budget. (This is a
tentative approval.)
COMMISSIONER YOUNG: Second.
VOTE COMMISSIONER YOUNG: Aye.
COMMISSIONER PAULSON: Aye.
COMMISSIONER SHEPARD: Aye.
JAN WICK: Aye.
JACK OLIVER: Aye.
CHAIRMAN CLEVELAND: Aye.
Mike Maier stated that this would be taken to Data Processing for its
final printing with the changes included in it. He then reminded the
budget board of the May 29, 1980 meeting out at the road department
regarding the Road Department budget and the Surveyor's budget. This
meeting will be at 7:30 p.m.
