COPE Presentation At this time Betsy Shay gave a presentation to the Board on Central Oregon Project Energy. Betsy showed a map which pointed out areas where proposed energy conservation project were possibly going to be in the next few years. She outlined some of these possibilities to the Board and explained how these resources would be useful as energy and how they would work. Betsy stated that some of the proposed projects may not pan out, as they will have to go through several permits and agencies before obtaining authorization to do the project. Among those mentioned were sites such as Benham Falls, some canals in the county and also._Newberry Crater. What the major concern with COPE would be to decide what sites would be worth pursuin&, and which ones should be left alone. Betsy related the many committees which are working on project energy and solar access package. She related that these projects are long range goals and if approved after establishing resource potential could take ten years before completion. These projects are underway to establish means of keeping the high and fast rising costs of energy bills down. Betsy stated that she will keep the Board posted of all new information. COPE grant expires on September 15, 1982. They are hoping to get another grant for continuation of this organization, but Betsy stated if and when COPE is no longer pursuing this project, perhaps the Planning Department may wish to handle some of these ideas. The Board thanked Betsy for her contribution to the meeting. Being no further business, the meeting was adjourned. DESCUUT,R COUNTY BQA$~l/OF C S,SIONERS OMMISS1,01NER T C.
