ARGUMENT IN FAVOR 9-81 Board of County Commissioners for Deschutes County,Oregon Submitted by Linda L.Swearingen,Chair Measure 9 81 is about unfair taxation. Board of County Commissioners for Deschutes County,Oregon (NO ARGUMENTS FOR OR AGAINST We live on a county road(Solar Drive).Road District#1 plows snow off of the road, but is paid by Deschutes County to do it.The road is THIS MEASURE WERE FILED) (NO ARGUMENTS FOR OR AGAINST maintained 100%by Deschutes County, but the Road District taxes us... THIS MEASURE WERE FILED) even though we receive absolutely no road district services. Road District#1 operates @ approximately$30,000.00 per year surplus, due to the fact that they tax many properties that should not be in the Road District(i.e.on county-maintained roads). This has allowed Road District#1 to spend in excess of$9,000.00, including paying for this election to keep people unfairly and unjustly on the tax rolls(they receive no services from the Road District). We do not believe this position will stand the scrutiny of the courts (it did not in the matter of the Covina Road withdrawal). A vote to allow our withdrawal is a vote to end unfair taxation.A vote rejecting withdrawal will put the Road District in the position to spend more of our money defending an unfair situation through the ` legal system. This money would be better spent maintaining and upgrading road district roads. ,. Thank You.
