QUESTION: Shall County levy $0.78 urban and
- $1.12 rural per$1,000 assessed value for Sheriff
services for three years beginning 2001-02?This
- measure may cause property taxes to increase
more than three percent.
SUMMARY:This measure may be passed only at
- an election with at least a 50 percent voter turn-
out.
- State law requires the second sentence under the
question section regarding a possible increase in
taxes. In fact,this levy maintains the current tax
- rate.The tax rate is the same as the Sheriff levy
passed three years ago. It is less than the ex-
pired 1997-8 levy.Passage of this levy ensures
- that the Sheriff's tax rate and Sheriff's services
remain stable for three years.
Over sixty percent of Sheriff services are funded
by this levy.The proposed levy provides funding

higher rate because they fund Sheriff's patrol ser-
vices.

iff services, is estimated to raise$7,864,948 in
