Legal Conference Room Commissioner's Meeting with Justice Court Attendees: Tammy Baney, Alan Unger, Tony DeBone, Tom Anderson and Charles Fadeley. Purpose of Meeting: Review performance measures/5-year planning. Mr. Fadeley provided a hand-out showing historic and current violations and small claims filings statistics. The increased filings are expected to continue in both categories. Increased small claims filings present a challenge for Justice Court staff resources. Legislation is being considered to allow an increase in Justice Court small claims fees to create more parity with Circuit Court. The role of Justice Court as the truancy backstop for school districts outside of Bend was explained. Justice Court has become more involved and hands-on given cutbacks in school resources. The headquarters facility in Redmond was discussed. The County intends to eventually move Justice Court into the Evergreen School building and have the courtroom on site. Sheriffs Office filings in Justice Court were discussed. Justice Court is working with the Sheriff's Office on a community policing project involving"Fix-It" tickets. The possible use of Justice Court for Dog Board proceedings and/or code enforcement was discussed. The Commissioners asked for a schedule of Justice Court sessions.
