I. Veteran's Service Office Keith McNamara explained that the role of the Veteran's Service Office is to provide advocacy and assist with claims for benefits for veterans and their dependents. Keith stated that his office has over 4,600 active clients. He noted the U.S. Department of Veterans' Affairs has a goal that all claims will be handled within 120 days. Keith stated that so far this year, the County's Veterans' Service Office has assisted veterans to receive $2.9 million in retroactive benefits. He noted that the office's wait time used to be 8-12 weeks, but is now running 2-3 weeks. II. Law Library Carol Rooney said that County law libraries are authorized by state statue and funded by circuit court filing fees. In response to a question from Commissioner Baney, Carol explained that she helps customers find resources, but cannot offer legal advice. III. Risk Management Ken Harms provided an update on ADA facility improvements. He also discussed the option for the County to enter the Oregon Public Entity Excess Pool (for excess general liability insurance) through City County Insurance Services.
