Since being elected as a Judge of the Circuit Court,I have had the opportunity and privilege to work with other elected offi- cials and community members to increase access to justice in our community through our court system. I currently serve as judge forour Domestic Violence Deferred Sentencing Program(DVDSP).With the assistance of the Deschutes County District Attorney,Parole and Probation,the criminal defense bar,and local victim advocacy groups,we have improved the operation of the DVDSP,thereby improv- ing outcomes for both offenders and victims of domestic violence. As a member of the Uniform Trial Court Rules Committee, I have been able to work with attorneys and judges from • across the state to improve how our courts function and deliver services. I have also been able to work with family law practitioners, my judicial colleagues,our trial court administrator,and others to implement a pilot program known as the Informal Domestic Relations Trial(IDRT).IDRT is a new model for family law cases that simplifies and streamlines the court pro- cess,an improvement that is especially important for those who come to court without an attorney.
