DESCHUTES COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
Audio Cassette Recording Titled: WORK SESSION
March 7, 1994; 10:00-11:00 AM.
A meeting of the Board of County Commissioners was held on March 7, 1994.
Commissioners present were Nancy Pope Schlangen, Tom Troop and Barry
Slaughter. Also in attendance were Rick (sham, County Counsel; County
Administrator Mike Maier; the media, other staff and a few citizens.
Items discussed at this meeting may be on a future Board business meeting
agenda:
Discussion of the adoption of a proclamation designating April as Earth Month
1994. Staff gave an overview of the item, which includes a statement that the
County will try to procure recycled items when possible. Commissioner Throop
suggested that the County look at this on a broader basis and perhaps come up
with a written policy.
Discussion of a waiver of high insurance limits for a window washing contract with
Mini -blind Co.

Discussion of approval of a rental agreement for a Mental Health halfway house
facility on 8th Street.
Discussion of signature of a Mylar for a partition dividing Lot 3, Block 1 of the
Sunriver Business Park.
Discussion of signature of a Mylar for Champion Ridge, for W&H Pacific Company.
Discussion of signature of Ordinance 94-017, granting low income housing
property tax exemption. This has to do with the new Healy facility.
Discussion of signature of Resolution 94-020, designating Labor Day as "Try
America Day" in perpetuity.
Discussion of a letter requesting the Juvenile Division endorsement of a
conference at COCC. The Health Department is already involved, and the
conference has to do with dealing with gay and lesbian youth issues.
Discussion of COCC's response regarding the Round Tree Regional Strategies
conference.
Commissioner Schlangen brought up the issue involving the Gleaners, whose sixty
days has expired. Risk Manager Mike Viegas will be asked to deal with the
situation, which is an eviction from County -owned property.
Discussion of AOC's request for submissions of innovative ideas or programs from
counties. The Board will have staff talk to the departments to see if there are
some options.
Discussion of a having a lengthy property management update since there are
many issues to address at this time; and the last meeting was too brief, and
Commissioner Throop wasn't present.
Discussion of a memo from Darrell Davidson of the Sheriff's Office regarding
security personnel carrying weapons, and the training required for this. The
Board will ask Mike Maier to find out more.
