BACKGROUND AND POLICY IMPLICATIONS: The Sheriffs Office routinely patrols land managed by the US Forest Service, including roads and campgrounds (both developed and dispersed). These patrols are primarily done by deputies assigned to the Special Services Unit, which tracks their activities to support reimbursement of patrol costs. This five-year agreement provides for an operating plan (which would be negotiated annually) and would allow for reimbursement of DCSO patrols on federal land. Funds not spent during any one year may be carried forward to the following year, with the exception of funds not spent by December 31, 2029.
