HomeMy WebLinkAboutSantiam Wagon RoadThe SanƟam Wagon Road went from Sweet Home to Cache Creek Toll StaƟon. The road
was conceived of in 1859 to create a route across the Cascades. By the 1890s the road had
become a major trade route.
In the late 1920s, the US Forest Service laid planks on the road near Sand Mountain to
keep cars out of the sand, but the route conƟnued to be difficult. It was abandoned when
the new SanƟam Pass road was built in 1939.
