HomeMy WebLinkAboutParenting Education Week For Recording Stamp Only BEFORE THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF DESCHUTES COUNTY, OREGON A Proclamation Declaring May 19-25, 2013 to be PARENTING EDUCATION AWARENESS WEEK PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, our children are the future of Oregon, and parents are their most important role models; and WHEREAS, brain research tells us that the quality of parenting affects a child’s physical, social, emotional and cognitive development; and good parenting is not instinctive, it is learned; WHEREAS, parenting education honors the important work that parents do, helping them gain skills and strategies, as well as realistic expectations for themselves and their child; and WHEREAS, parenting education helps parents learn how to best support their child’s growth and development to help promote their child’s success in school and life; and WHEREAS, an enhanced awareness of the value of parenting education could provide an additional key to ensuring a strong future for the youngest citizens of our county; and WHEREAS, improved knowledge of positive parenting practices will promote loving and skilled parents, helping ensure the well-being of children; WHEREAS; effective parenting education programs succeed because of partnerships among non-profits, early education programs and schools, faith communities, foundations and civic organizations, government agencies, and the business community; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Deschutes County Board of Commissioners does hereby proclaim May 19-25, to be Parenting Education Awareness Week and encourage all community members to join us in this observance.
