DATE: June 16,2014 FROM: Cynthia Smidt Community Development Department 317-3150 TITLE OF AGENDA ITEM: Consideration of Board Appointment for one new member to the Deschutes County Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee. PUBLIC HEARING ON THIS DATE? No BACKGROUND AND POLICY IMPLICATIONS: The purpose of this agenda item is to request that the Board of County Commissioners (Board) appoint Wendy Holzman and Matthew Olsen to fill two positions of the Deschutes County Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BP AC). There are two vacancies on the BPAC due to term expirations of members, Kevin Tanski and Phyllis Lewis. Matthew Olsen will replace Kevin Tanski and will begin a new 3-year term on June 30, 2014. Wendy Holzman will replace Phyllis Lewis as the respresentive for the City of Sisters. On May 29, 2014, Sisters City Council recommended Wendy Holzman to replace Phyllis Lewis on the committee. Wendy Holzman will begin a new 3-year term on June 30, 2014. Under BPAC bylaws, the affected City Council appoints a member to fill out a term when a vacancy occurs. The BPAC consists of nine official members. The Board must appoint all members of the BP AC. Staff and BP AC members request that the Board assist in the presentation of a service plaque to Kevin Tanski for his 6-year service on the BP AC. This request extends for the recognition of Phyllis Lewis for her service on the BP AC. FISCAL IMPLICATIONS: None RECOMMENDATION & ACTION REQUESTED: Staff recommends that the Board appoint Matthew Olsen and Wendy Holzman as a member of the Deschutes County Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee. In addition, staff requests that the Board assist in the presentation of the service plaque and letter to the outgoing members. PUBLIC HEARING ON THIS DATE? No BACKGROUND AND POLICY IMPLICATIONS: The purpose of this agenda item is to request that the Board of County Commissioners (Board) appoint Rick Root to fill one position of the Deschutes County Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BP AC). There is one (l) vacancy on the BP AC, due to the resignation of Michele Sims in December 2013. Rick Root will finish Michele Sims term, which expires June 30, 2015. Her position remained vacant until the committee member search in January 2014. Rick Root started on the BPAC in January 2014. This request also includes the re-appointment of three current BPAC members, Matt Martin, Bill Braly, and Mary Barron for another 3-year term. The BPAC consists of nine official members. The Board must appoint all members of the BP AC.
