AGENDA REQUEST & STAFF REPORT
For Board Business Meeting of October 10,2012
DATE: October 2,2012
FROM: Darryl Nakahira Sheriffs Office: 617-3369
TITLE OF AGENDA ITEM:
Consideration of Board Signature of Order No. 2012-025: An Order Declaring Certain Deschutes
County Personal Property Surplus and Authorizing Sale
PUBLIC HEARING ON THIS DATE? No
BACKGROUND AND POLICY IMPLICATIONS:
Deschutes County Code 2.37.110 sets out the methods the County can use to dispose of surplus
property, including the use of public auctions. Current technology allows the use of online auction web
sites, such as PublicSurplus.com, which enables the Sheriffs Office to quickly auction surplus property
that would otherwise devalue and be exposed to the elements as it sits idle.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS:
The Sheriffs Office has used PublicSurplus.com since January, 2008 and has been successful in
selling the surplus vehicles. PublicSurplus.com imposes a 7% surcharge per vehicle at the time of
sale. The surcharge is paid by the purchaser.
RECOMMENDATION & ACTION REQUESTED:
Approve and sign Order No. 2012-025.
ATTENDANCE:
Lisa Griggs, Sheriffs Office Civil Technician
DISTRIBUTION OF DOCUMENTS:
Email/send a copy to Pat Davis, Sheriffs Office Legal Assistant.
