PUBLIC HEARING ON THIS DATE? No BACKGROUND AND POLICY IMPLICATIONS: The purpose of this agenda item is to request that the Board of County Commissioners (Board) appoint Bill Braly and Mary Barron to fill two positions of the Deschutes County Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC). This request also includes the re -appointment of three current BPAC members, Chuck Humphreys, Matt Martin, and Kevin Tanski, for another 3 -year term. The BPAC consists of nine official members. The Board must appoint all members of the BPAC. There are two vacancies on the BPAC, due to resignations and term expirations. FISCAL IMPLICATIONS: None RECOMMENDATION & ACTION REQUESTED: Staff recommends that the Board appoint Bill Braly and Mary Barron as members of the Deschutes County Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee. ATTENDANCE: Cynthia Smidt DISTRIBUTION OF DOCUMENTS: Cynthia Sniidt Community Development Department Planning Division Building Safety Division Environmental Soils Division 117 NW Lafayette Avenue Bend Oregon 97701-1925 (541)388-6575 FAX (541)385-1764 http://www.co.deschutes.or.us/cdd/ MEMORANDUM DATE: July 7, 2011 TO: Board of County Commissioners FROM: Cynthia Smidt, Associate Planner RE: Request for the Board to Appoint One New Members to the Deschutes County Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee BACKGROUND The purpose of the Deschutes County Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) is to advise the incorporated cities and other governmental bodies of Deschutes County on bicycle and pedestrian issues, assist in the development and maintenance of local and countywide pedestrian and bicycle plans, as well as encourage and facilitate safe walking and bicycling in Deschutes County Deschutes County Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) consists of nine official members. There are two (2) vacancies on the BPAC, due to a resignation and term expiration. In June 2011, the terms of Glen Bates and Sami Fournier expired. The Committee advertised for prospective members, evaluated applications, and briefly interviewed several potential candidates. Bill Braly and Mary Barron, if confirmed, will each begin a new three (3) term, replacing Glen Bates and Sami Fournier. Chuck Humphreys, Matt Martin, and Kevin Tanski have agreed to serve another 3 -year term. The Board must appoint all members of BPAC. RECOMMENDATIONS Staff recommends that the Board appoint Bill Braly and Mary Barron to fill the position on the Deschutes County Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee.
