Consideration and Signature of Resolution #2010-072, a Resolution Awarding $281,850 in Comm pity
Grants to 27 Non -Profit Organizations.

BACKGROUND AND POLICY IMPLICATIONS:
In an effort to support local non-profit organizations, a portion of video lottery revenue for FY 2011
have been identified for distribution in the form of a new community grant program.
The county solicited applications for the grants and received a total of 36 applications. These
applications were reviewed by a five -member committee consisting of Ken Wilhelm (Executive
Director of Untied Way of Deschutes County), Renee Windsor (Chair of Commission on Children &
Families Board), Scott Johnson (Director of the Health Services Department), Hillary Saraceno
(Executive Director of the Commission on Children & Families) and Dave Inbody (Assistant to the
County Administrator). This committee selected 27 organizations for grants totalling $281,850.
Selections were made based on an ability to address four specific county objectives approved by the
Board of Commissioners: (1) providing emergency food, clothing and shelter to those who would
otherwise go without these essentials, (2) protection for abused and/or neglected individuals who lack
resources to otherwise obtain such protection, (3) health care, mental health care and addictions
treatment for individuals who lack resources to otherwise obtain such care, (4) juvenile crime
prevention programs for at risk youth, and/or (5) other essential services to underserved and indigent
populations, especially children and seniors.
The Budget Committee on May 20, 2010 approved the allocation of funds from the Video Lottery
Grant Fund (165) for the distribution of Community Grants to Deschutes County non-profit
organizations.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS:
Expenditure of $281,850 from the Video Lottery Fund (165). For FY 2011, $281,850 has been
budgeted in the Video Lottery Fund for this purpose.

WHEREAS, the Budget Committee on May 20, 2010 approved the allocation of funding from the

organizations, and
WHEREAS, the county solicited applications for community grants and received 36 applications, and

Children & Families) and Dave Inbody (Assistant to the County Administrator), reviewed these 36 applications
and recommended grant funding for 27 organizations, now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF DESCHU7 ES
COUNTY, OREGON, that the non-profit organizations listed in Exhibit A be awarded Community Grants.
