This Proclamation is in conjunction with the NOVA Volunteer of the Year Awards.

Consideration and Reading of the Proclamation.

A Proclamation Declaring May 7, 2009
Central Oregon Volunteer Appreciation Day:
"Volunteers...Hands That Serve, Hearts That Care"

WHEREAS, the entire Central Oregon community can effect positive change with any volunteer
action no matter how big or small; and
WHEREAS, volunteers can connect with local social and environmental service programs and join
with other citizens through their work places, schools, and places of worship; and
WHEREAS, millions of volunteers working in their communities utilize their time and talent daily
to make a real difference in the lives of children, adults and the elderly; and
WHEREAS, the giving of oneself in service to another empowers the giver and the recipient; and
WHEREAS, experience teaches us that government by itself cannot solve all of our communities'
social problems; and
WHEREAS, volunteers are vital to our future as a caring and productive community, state, and
nation; and
WHEREAS, in Central Oregon on May 7, 2009, volunteers will be honored and recognized by the
Network of Volunteer Administrators for their commitment and for the invaluable services they perform to
enhance the quality of life for all our citizens;
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of County Commissioners hereby proclaims May
7, 2009, as Central Oregon Volunteer Appreciation Day in honor of the dedicated, selfless and
compassionate efforts of all volunteers to improve the quality of life of our Central Oregon communities.
THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS hereby urges all citizens during this day to
acknowledge the important contributions volunteers make in enhancing the lives of Central Oregonians.
