TITLE OF AGENDA ITEM:
Consideration of the Reading of a Proclamation Declaring May 8, 2009 "Military Family Appreciation
Day in Deschutes County."
PUBLIC HEARING ON THIS DATE? No.
BACKGROUND AND POLICY IMPLICATIONS:
The Governor's Task Force on Veterans' Services is asking communities throughout Oregon to declare
May 8, 2009 as Oregon's first Military Family Appreciation Day. The task force hopes that this annual
event will accomplish three goals: shared learning - providing people an opportunity to learn and listen;
shared effort - through a symbolic act; and an opportunity for fellowship - all aimed at breaking down
barriers.
Locally, an event is planned on May 8, 2009 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the Riverfront Plaza. The
event will include a tree planting ceremony, information tables from community service providers,
children activities, and other resources for military families.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS:
None.
RECOMMENDATION & ACTION REQUESTED:
Consideration and Reading of the Proclaimation.
ATTENDANCE: Keith Macnamara, Deschutes County Veterans' Service Officer and Roy Morris,
