PUBLIC HEARING ON THIS DATE? No BACKGROUND AND POLICY IMPLICATIONS: The purpose of this agenda item is to request that the Board of County Commissioners (Board) appoint Eli Ashley to fill one position of the Deschutes County Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC). This request also includes the re- appointment of three current BPAC members, Cheryl Howard, Jim Stone, and Michele Sims, for another 3 -year term. The BPAC consists of nine official members. The Board must appoint all members of the BPAC. There is one vacancy on the BPAC, Sue to resignations and term expirations. FISCAL IMPLICATIONS: None RECOMMENDATION & ACTION REQUESTED: Staff recommends that the Board appoint Eli Ashley as a member of the Deschutes County Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee ATTENDANCE: Cynthia Smidt, Associate Planner DISTRIBUTION OF DOCUMENTS: Cynthia Smidt Community Development Department Planning Division Building Safety Division Environmental Health Division 117 NW Lafayette Avenue Bend Oregon 97701 -1925 (541)388 -6575 FAX (541)385 -1764 http : / /www.co.deschutes.or.us /cdd/ MEMORANDUM TO: Deschutes Board of County Commissioners (Board) FROM: Cynthia Smidt, Associate Planner DATE: June 30, 2009 MEETING: July 8, 2009 SUBJECT: Request for the Board to Appoint One New Members to the Deschutes County Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee BACKGROUND The purpose of the Deschutes County Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) is to advise the incorporated cities and other governmental bodies of Deschutes County on bicycle and pedestrian issues, assist in the development and maintenance of local and countywide pedestrian and bicycle plans, as well as encourage and facilitate safe walking and bicycling in Deschutes County Deschutes County Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) consists of nine official members. There is one (1) vacancy on the BPAC, due to a resignation and term expiration. In June 2009, the terms of Ben Leber, Cheryl Howard, Jim Stone, and Michele Sims expired. The Committee advertised for prospective members, evaluated applications, and briefly interviewed several potential candidates. Eli Ashley, if confirmed, will begin a new three (3) term, replacing Ben Leber. Cheryl Howard, Jim Stone, and Michele Sims have agreed to serve another 3 -year term. All members of BPAC must be appointed by the Board. RECOMMENDATIONS Staff recommends that the Board appoint Eli Ashley to fill the position on the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee.
