DATE: August 19, 2007 FROM: Timm Schimke Solid Waste Ext. 3177 TITLE OF AGENDA ITEM: Consideration of Chair Signature of Document No. 2008-476, a Notice of Intent to Award Contract. Letter for Knott Landfill 2008 Rock Removal Project PUBLIC HEARING ON THIS DATE? No BACKGROUND AND POLICY IMPLICATIONS: In July, 2008, the Solid Waste Department solicited bids for rock excavation work at Knott Landfill. The project includes the drilling, blasting and removal of approximately 500,000 cubic yards of in- place basalt. The rock removal is necessary to facilitate ongoing excavation activities as filling operations progress at the landfill, to prepare for the next lined cell, and to access soil for site operations and closure work slated for FY 2009-10. The rock removed under this project will be placed by the contractor at the Rose Pit, immediately south of Knott Landfill. Bids were received from 19 firms and Taylor Northwest was determined to be the lowest responsible bidder for the project. A summary of the bids received is attached. The low bid is substantially less than our cost estimates which were based on similar work done in the past. FISCAL IMPLICATIONS: Funds have been budgeted in the Solid Waste Department budget for this project. RECOMMENDATION & ACTION REQUESTED: Staff recommends that the Board of County Comissioners issue a Notice of Intenet to award the Knott Landfill 2008 Rock Removal Project to Taylor Northwest. ATTENDANCE: Timm Schimke DISTRIBUTION OF DOCUMENTS: Fax and first class mail documents to the bidders listed on the attachment; copy to Solid Waste.
