HomeMy WebLinkAboutSO - Grant App - Emergency Operations To: Deschutes County Board of Commissioners From: Sgt. Nathan Garibay Date: February 5, 2014 Subject: Proposed Grant Application for the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office Commissioner/County Administrator Approval: Date: The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office is requesting the Board of Commissioners’ approval to submit a grant application on behalf of the County. A summary of the grant opportunity follows. Program: The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Operations Center Enhancement The Sheriff’s Office will purchase an upgraded wireless access point, laptops and a Smartboard display for the designated Deschutes County Emergency Operations Center (EOC). Currently, Deschutes County does not have sufficient wireless capability to support the data needs in the EOC. Deschutes County also does not have dedicated computers that are immediately available and loaded with all the necessary software. The Smartboard and the laptops will enable the EOC coordinators to provide complete situational awareness to decision makers during a disaster or large scale emergency. The purchases will be used by multiple public safety and public service agencies in Deschutes County, including law enforcement, public works and the health department. These public safety and public service agencies will be able to see all necessary information during a large scale emergency. This includes all the incidents occurring, available resources (fire engines, heavy equipment, evacuation teams, etc), committed resources, and expected needs. If the County is awarded the funds, the purchases will greatly improve the ability to coordinate and manage all county departments and outside agencies in the event of a disaster. Funding Agency: Oregon Office of Emergency Management, State Homeland Security Program. On January 16, 2014, OEM issued a state-wide notice that $150,000 in competitive funds is available for eligible projects. Due Date: Application: February 14, 2014 Amount: $13,766 Matching Funds: None Duration: Purchases must be made no later than June 30, 2014. Background: The funds are competitive. If the County is awarded the funds, OEM will issue a formal grant document which will be presented to the Board/County Administrator for signature. Reporting: Sgt. Garibay, the Deschutes County Emergency Manager, will be responsible for submitting a report to the Office of Emergency Management by June 30, 2014. Please contact Sgt.
