BBBSCO is a one-to-one mentoring program; which matches professionally screened and trained volunteers with youth throughout Bend, Jefferson, Crook County and Warm Springs. The purpose of BBBSCO is to give children & families the opportunity to form meaningful relationships with volunteer mentors. Our program provides many match activities for program participates (i.e. rafting, snowshoeing, camping, fishing, etc.). Many `Gigs" and "Littles" spend their time taking advantage of the Central Oregon landscape. Our leadership structure stems from being a part of the Iargest regional youth development provider. We are a program ofJ Bar J Youth Services; which provides executive leadership, accounting, grant writing and many administrative functions. BBBSCO has its own Advisory Board and Program Director; who provide support, oversight and guide the program while working closely with 2 Advisory Boards in surrounding counties. 2.) Bowl For Kids' Sake is an annual fundraising event which helps in providing financial support to ensure the future quality and growth of the program. Our goal is to provide mentors for all children in our community that need and want one. This will be our loth annual BFKS! Many people get involved and this is a great way to engage our Bigs and Littles; while supporting a community event. This event has approxirnately 400 attendees and consists of many business leaders and community advocates. 3.) The event will take place on May 11th this year at Sun Mountain Fun Center. 4.) This activity (BFKS) will recruit community support to provide financial assistance to the number one mentoring program in the nation. Many individuals, business professionals and friends of the program rally to collect pledge money to benefit BBBSCO. Local businesses sponsor teams and come out to support BBBSCO. This event allows our community to advocate and support BBBSCO while raising funding to sustain and expand the program. It is a great marketing tool for local businesses that choose to sponsor our event as well as those businesses that donate in-kind food, services, volunteer hours and event supplies. 5.) The children & families of Deschutes County will directly benefit from this activity because it will allow our staff to match more children with caring adult mentors. Our services are free to children between the ages of 6-15 who want and need a mentor. Most children in the program are from low-income, single -parent households. Many struggling with school and have inadequate support systems. BBBSCO carefully matches and monitors children with screened volunteers. Our volunteers offer a positive role model to a child who might not have one, a person to encourage them to reach their full potential, someone to believe in them, someone to open up new doors and help thein explore a life outside what they may see around them day to day. 1 think we all had a person in our lives that told us we could be successful, taught us how to ski or swim, and showed us the positive path to follow. We believe all children deserve to have a person like that in their lives. Our vision is that all children achieve success in life. 6.) BFKS 2012 expenditures were $2,600. This year we anticipate approximately $2,600 in expenditures (see budget attachment). Grant funds will be used as a BFKS Lucky Strike Sponsorship (see BFKS $2,500 Lucky Strike Sponsorship attachment for details on how the grant funds will be used). ALL proceeds from 2013 BFKS (approx. $25,000) will benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters in Deschutes County and will go towards matching the 60+ children on our waitlist.
