TITLE OF AGENDA ITEM:
Order approving extension of time and promissory note for payment of delinquent Transient Room Tax.

BACKGROUND AND POLICY IMPLICATIONS:
We have an operator who has fallen behind on their payment to the County of the Room Tax from
August 2012. Marty and Cheryl had been working with the operator to come up with a plan to bring
the account current by June 30, 2014. County Counsel has also bee involved and has suggested that if
the Board approves an extension of time to pay this obligation, the Board should also authorize a
promissory note with the operator to secure collection.
This operator is current on all other payments and has been making monthly payments against the
August 2012 delinquency. We have also levied all penalties and interest allowed by the code. This
action does not waive any penalties or interest, it merely establishes a collection agreement using a
promissory note. This method was successfully used with another operator last year.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS:
Approval of the promissory note will improve the County's likelihood of full collection of the
delinquent tax by June 30, 2014.
RECOMMENDATION & ACTION REQUESTED:
Approve the request for an extension of time for repayment to June 30, 2014 and approve the
promissory note with the operator.
