The Greater Redmond Historical Society was formed in 2010 in order to raise funds for the operation of the museum and to work closely with the Redmond Historic Commission. In 2011 the Redmond City Council voted to dissolve the Historic Commission and contract with the Society to operate the museum and manage the collection. This relationship is very similar to the relationship the Deschutes Historical Society has with Deschutes County. The Greater Redmond Historical Society is focused primarily with the areas surrounding Redmond in Northern Deschutes County. The Greater Redmond Historical Society is governed by a board of nine. Eight of these positions are elected at our annual membership meeting. The remaining position is appointed by the Redmond City Council. The purpose of the Society is to identify and conserve artifacts deemed to have historic value to the citizens of Northern Deschutes County. The Society maintains and preserves this collection. The Society also operates the Redmond Museum located at 529 SW 7th Street in Redmond along with Homestead Park. During the summer months the Society produces several history related events for the community. 2.) The project being proposed will update our computer system which is currently an amalgam of various donated pieces which, due primarily to age, do not network and are inadequate to run the museum software needed to catalog and manage the collection. Specifically this grant will allow the Society to purchase a museum management software package, three desktop computers, a printer, routers and switches needed to network the computers, external network data storage, and the wiring and supplies needed to install the network. We, as is our custom, have secured professionals that have agreed to volunteer the labor. WHERE HISTORY MEETS TODAY 3.) The proposed timeline will depend on when we can find the financing. We are ready to proceed immediately. 4.) This project will help the Society not divert funds away from our educational endeavors. In the past two years since the museum has been opened we have worked closely with the Redmond Chamber of Commerce in developing special programs that integrate with some of the special events that Redmond hosts. We conduct history tours, special museum tours and other events that are offered to the attendees these events such as the motor home and motorcycle conventions. In at least one of these instances the request had come directly from the national event's organizers. 5.) This project will benefit the communities of Northern Deschutes County including Redmond and Terrebonne. In addition there are several groups that we benefit including the Boy and Girl Scouts, public and private schools, and the local economic development groups that coordinate some of the special events that are held in Redmond. 6.) Project detail: a. Three desktop computers w/monitors b. External network storage drive c. Network printer d. Past Perfect 5.0 software e. Network Router f. Ethernet switch g. Cables and misc. supplies for installation $1479.97 $249.99 $499.99 $696.00 $59.99 $49.99 $200.00 $3235.93 Any additional funds required will come out of our general fund. In-kind match will be in the form of volunteer labor and expertise required for installation. This project will support our on-going activities and will be funded in the future by the equipment replacement fund. This grant will give us some breathing room and allow for the opportunity to build this fund up in the next few years.
