Re: Eastlake Village, Phase II , Bend
Dear Ms. Van Vliet:
On behalf of Deschutes County, the Board of Commissioners is pleased to extend a letter of support
to Housing Works for the development of Eastlake Village II. The addition of 40 units of workforce
housing proposed with Eastlake Village II will provide opportunities to a diverse population of low
income residents of Deschutes County who live and work in Bend's vibrant east side.
Eastlake Village I has been a community asset for nine years, has consistently been in high demand,
and has excellent curb appeal. The design and amenities for Eastlake Village II will be similar to
Phase I, but will include new features in building technologies that will greatly improve operational
efficiencies and result in lower resident utility bills. The site is also ideal for residents, as it is
convenient to shopping, schools, health care services, and employment.
Central Oregon's much needed recovery is under way, and the returning jobs are the service level
positions that are the target of these affordable units. With rent levels at 20% below market rates,
Eastlake Village II will provide opportunities to help meet the ever-increasing demand for
affordable housing for workforce families.
Housing Works has considerable experience and a strong track record of building high-quality,
affordable housing that integrates well with the surrounding neighborhoods. The Deschutes County
Commissioners strongly supports their application to Oregon Housing and Community Services.
Sincerely,
DESCHUTES COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
