ORGANIZATIONAL INFORMATION 1. For an application to be considered by the Board of Commissioners, proof of the organization's non- profit status must be submitted with this application. CTC's 501 C 3 is attached. 2. Describe the organization including the history, mission, leadership structure and primary functions and activities (maximum 250 words). Cascades Theatrical Company (CTC) was founded and incorporated in 1978 as the Community Theatre of the Cascades and is a 501 (C) (3) non-profit theatre in the heart of Central Oregon. It is in its 33nd year of producing full seasons of quality plays and presentations for the entertainment of all. Initially, CTC was limited to presenting its productions in the gymnasium of Kenmore Grade School in Bend and utilized an abandoned church building as a rehearsal space. In 1982, CTC succeeded in renting the building at its current location and, aided by a grant from the Bend Foundation, transformed the original building into a theatre space. The building is a 5,000 square foot, single -story structure located at 148 NW Greenwood Avenue. CTC purchased the building in 1990. We are pleased to announce that after all of these years, the mortgage on our facility was paid in full just this month. CTC is Central Oregon's longest standing community theatre and is volunteer -based. While a staff of three employees (Theatre Operations Manager, Assistant Manager and Lead Production Technician) manages the organization's day-to-day operations, all productions are directed, acted, designed, built and painted by volunteers. CTC presents six full-length, Main Stage productions yearly, with 12 to15 performances each. More than 8,000 benefit from our productions each year. Our Mission Statement is: Cascades Theatrical Company exists to provide opportunities for members of the Central Oregon community to be entertained and enriched by high quality theatrical productions, and to participate meaningfully in the creation and support of these productions. 3. Describe the program (project, activity or event) seeking grant funding. Include the specific individuals, communities or groups benefiting from this program (maximum 250 words). The project for which we are seeking funding is support of our Main Stage programming/presentations for 2012. We anticipate production costs for our seven major presentations will be $78,050 which includes staff production and other costs. Sponsorship will make possible these productions which will be attended by over 8,000 Patrons from Central Oregon and visitors from outside our area. Attendees benefit through opportunities to attend artistic presentations that, without CTC, they may not be able to avail themselves to cultural, artistic and educational offerings in Central Oregon. The upcoming shows include: "Rabbit Hole" a drama by David Lindsay-Abaire (current Pulitzer Prize-winning show) "Social Security" a comedy by Andrew Bergman "Wrong Window" a mystery/comedy by Billy Van Zandt and Jane Milmore "Its Only Money" world premiere musical by local playwright and lyricist David Forrest "A Christmas Carol" as adapted by John Jakes "Twelfth Night" by William Shakespeare "The Shadow Box" a Pulitzer Prize-winning drama by Michael Cristofer "Shooting Star" a romantic by Steven Dietz "Fox on the Fairway" a comedy by Ken Ludwig Ticket sales cover approximately 60% of the cost of a performance and the balance is covered by contributions. Thus, we approach organization such as Deschutes County and others, corporations and businesses and individuals for additional levels of generous support. 4. Itemize the anticipated expenditures for the program. Also, provide a list of anticipated sources of funding and amounts projected. Expenditures for the program include: Equipment and Sets $10,300 Scripts & Royalties $10,950 Production Support $ 9,825 Marketing, Printed Materials and Promotion $19,475 Lead Production Technician $25,000 Graphic Design $ 2,500 Total $78,050 Anticipated sources of funding projected are: Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company of Bend, ($5,000); The Kinsman Foundation, ($7,500); Season Pass Sales, ($25,000); Donations/Memberships ($15,000); OnPoint Community Credit Union, ($3,000); Target Stores, ($2,000); Home Federal Savings, ($2,000); and Wells Fargo Foundation, ($5,000). We will use a portion of the above listed funds to match County support. 5. Explain how this program will positively impact the community's economic health (maximum 250 words). Cascades Theatrical Company positively impacts the community's economic health in several ways. The main -stage programming offered by CTC employs three paid individuals who manage and direct the operations of the theatre. The live community theatre offerings presented throughout each year add to the arts and cultural vitality of this community. We believe that having community theatre for all of our residents and visitors to enjoy enhances the economic fabric of our community. CTC receives revenue through its ticket sales which supports the local economy. Many who attend our productions dine in area restaurants and patronize local businesses when they attend our productions. The performing arts, along with a variety of other arts and media forms offered in our community, the area's natural resources and related assets, the available workforce, the stellar educational system here including higher education, the excellence in medical services and many other facets of our area makes it an attractive region for prospective businesses who relocate to Central Oregon. Culture and the arts add to the overall economic health, citizen involvement and vibrancy of Central Oregon. Potential businesses considering relocation look at these factors and values when considering establishing new locations. 6. Identify the outcomes the organization seeks to achieve through this program (maximum 250 words). The outcome that CTC seeks to achieve through this program are: - - Raise necessary funding for the presentation of the 2012-2013 productions. The base budget for this aspect is $78,050. The overall operating budget for the coming year for CTC is $257,900. -- Utilizing volunteers and others, plan for the plays that will be presented, conduct auditions, rehearsals and presentation of 6-8 plays in the coming year - - Market the 33rd and 34th seasons of Cascades Theatrical Company - - Successfully present the schedule of plays, serving and benefiting more than 8,000 patrons -- Support the overall economy of Central Oregon through participation in the arts and making available entertaining, educational and cultural presentations to area residents and others The Greenwood Playhouse Theatre seats 131 audience members and is considered a landmark in Central Oregon. Average attendance of performances is more than 75% of capacity. Another goal, through marketing and other activities is to increase the attendance percentage at our productions. Of important note, with the completion of a first-time, comprehensive long-range plan, CTC is poised to renew its efforts to connect with current friends in the local community and to focus efforts to establish new partners who enjoy the unique performing arts presentations of CTC.
