Innovation Theatre Works (ITW) is a 501(c) 3 organization founded in February, 2007 as Central Oregon's first and only professional theatre. Our mission is "To engage, entertain, educate and inspire the Central Oregon community through the transformative power of the theatre arts." We seek to pursue that mission through the following core values: Artistic Excellence • To produce work of artistic merit that is meaningful to our community, invites public discussion and provides a forum for that discussion. Community Engagement • To produce work that is created in our community and explores its unique sensibilities and experiences. • To involve the community in the creative process for the benefit of both audience and artists. • To bring the finest theatre artists to Central Oregon to share their gifts with our community. Lifelong Learning • To promote an appreciation of the contribution arts make to the quality of life. • To celebrate great theatrical literature, both past and present and to nurture the voices of the future. • To build the next generation of theatre goers. Professional Integrity • To remain committed to the mission and focus on serving the community through that mission. • To require accountability from our leadership. • To earn and sustain the trust of our community by treating the resources provided to us with care and responsibility. ITW is governed by a Board of Directors and daily operations are carried out by its founders and co -artistic directors Brad Hills and Chris Rennolds. In addition to producing first-class professional theatre, we program regular events such as play -readings, open mic storytelling, music and classes, all available at very low cost or free to the community. 2. In February of 2010, ITW was able to move into its first "permanent" home, a building in Bend's Scandia Square that we have dubbed the "Bend Performing Arts Center" (BendPAC). While providing us with an almost perfect combination of a flexible 200 seat theatre space, lobby, offices and classrooms, there is much infrastructure needed to transform the former church into a fully -functioning theatrical facility. Thanks to this grant program, we were able to obtain the chairs needed to hold performances and other events last June. Over the course of 2010 and the beginning of 2011, we have produced 3 major shows and have held many other one-night events produced by ITW, through BendPAC or by visiting organizations. We are finding the community is beginning to find us and think of us as a viable presentation alternative for their own events. However, we are still lacking in a number of technical elements and have lost potential renters because of this. Organizations such as the Chamber of Commerce, COTV, The City Club and others have expressed interest in holding events here, but have had to go elsewhere because of one thing or another we were not able to provide. We are seeking these funds to help procure these things in order to make us a truly viable performance and event center. 3. Once funding is secured, all items will be purchased and put into operation immediately. Our hope is to have the new equipment in place by April 30th, 2011. 4. In addition to upgrading our own production capabilities, we envision BendPAC as an intimate and affordable alternative to the existing performance and event facilities in town. At a flexible capacity of 150 - 200, we can provide up to twice the seating of the smaller theatres in town while also providing a size more suitable to many small organizations than the Tower. Our goal is to work with every organization according to their needs and financial capacity to provide as many easily affordable opportunities as possible. 5. Specifically all non-profit arts organizations or student groups will have the opportunity to hold events at BendPAC. Additionally, any other non-profit organizations will have access for their own particular events. Beyond the non-profit and student organizations, we believe any other business needing affordable space will be potential renters of our unique facility. 6. Specific technical purchases will include: • Additional lighting equipment ($2,000) • Microphones ($1,000) • Sound reproduction equipment($1,000) • Video projector ($1,000) Our intention is to use this grant as a matching opportunity in order to raise the $5,000 total needed to procure these items. We will make proposals to companies that sell the equipment to provide them at reduced costs as a match. We will also challenge local businesses and individual donors to step up complete the match.
