The obstacles that homeless men, women, and families face are numerous and varied. The lack of affordable housing, educational deficiencies, life and job skill limitations, unreliable transportation and poverty are all elements contributing to homelessness. As the largest provider of shelter for an entire region, the Inn provides an array of services tailored to each individual's unique needs. Scores of individuals, families and communities are dependent upon the organization's expertise in addressing the wide spread issue of homelessness. The organization works in close collaboration with other local service providers and non profits to maximize available resources for residents and for operations. The Bethlehem Inn recognizes that homelessness is an issue that requires an integrated and comprehensive approach. The programs and services offered by the organization are designed to help residents identify the root causes of their life challenges, offer access to programs that build life skills and confidence and assist in coordinating the necessary resources to achieve the goal of returning to stable housing. Each program and/or service outcomes are based on individual accountability and provides the tools and resources to help residents succeed. Immediate access to shelter, food and services allows residents the opportunity to begin to make life affirming choices crucial in achieving independence. The organization is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors and managed by an industry experienced professional team. The Bethlehem Inn employs five management staff along with eight program staff to operate the 24 hour, seven days a week, 365 days a year non-profit shelter program. Proposed Project The Inn started from the profound expression of compassion of concerned citizens over the plight of the homeless and is poised to move to the next level of serving the greater community. Bethlehem Inn's historical fundraising efforts follow the evolution of the organization from its original volunteered - managed grassroots efforts to its current professional staff -driven, volunteer supported approach. Critical to Bethlehem Inn's future growth is the commitment to fundraising by the Board of Directors and staff of the Inn. The organization's strategic plan clearly makes the development of a sustainable financial and community development program a top priority. In line with the organization's fundraising strategies, Spotlight on Homelessness — Bethlehem Inn's Inaugural Community Partnership Dinner is planned for the evening of May 31St at Seventh Mountain Resort. This event will bring together community leaders, organizations and individuals to learn how the Bethlehem Inn is addressing homelessness in Central Oregon. Crafted as a traditional fundraising "ask" event, guests will be given the opportunity to support the mission of the Bethlehem inn with a financial contribution. As the organization's annual signature event, the Spotlight on Homelessness program will be designed each year with relative and important facts relating to homelessness. With the assistance of this year's event chair Jamie Christman, Executive producer of Talk of the Town, the program will highlight the reality of "The New Face of Homelessness" in our community.
