Describe the applicant organization, including its purpose, leadership structure, and activities. The purpose of the Humane Society of Redmond is to provide a resource for our community where animal care and adoption to a responsible family are the underlying tenets of our organization. Our leadership structure includes an active, "hands-on" Board of Directors, a professional Shelter Manager, a staff of approximately seven full time equivalent employees and community volunteers. The primary activities of the HSR include: sheltering and caring for stray and rescued animals brought to our facility by law enforcement and the community; operating a low- cost spay and neuter clinic to control the population growth of unwanted animals; providing community education on animal care and long term animal control; administering limited emergency veterinary services for stray animals; and providing pet adoption services. 2. Describe the proposed project or activity. Our project is a simple but important one. Our shelter buildings use six large Heating/Air ConditioningNentilation units to provide a comfortable environment for our staff, visitors and animals. Given that our facility is full of animals at all times, the amount of hair, dander, dust and other particulate matter which accumulates in our HVAC units and ductwork is substantial. These units require cleaning as does the ductwork to ensure long life and trouble-free operation. If left un -serviced for an extended period of time (i.e. several years), their efficiency reduces, thereby increasing operating costs, and the possibility of breakdown increases. Unfortunately, due to the prioritization of our expenses, the proper cleaning of the HVAC units and ducts has not been performed for many years and we are asking for funding to complete this work. 3. Provide a timeline for completing the proposed project or activity. If funded, the work on our HVAC systems may commence immediately using trained professionals from a local firm. 4. Explain how the proposed project or activity will impact the community's economic health. The Toss of any one of our HVAC units would require the immediate expenditure of thousands of dollars to repair or replace the unit. These funds would need to come from other programs within our organization such as our spay/neuter program, our animal treatment program, and other community -centric activities. These programs would suffer seriously from a re -distribution of resources and affect our community as a whole. 5. Identify the specific communities or groups that will benefit. Programs such as animal medical care and spay/neuter benefit the pet loving members of our community that do not have the resources to avail themselves of traditional care and need a low cost alternative. The Humane Society of Redmond provides these services for the needy animals and families in our community. 6. Itemize anticipated expenditures*. Describe how grant funds will be used and include the source and amounts of matching funds or in-kind contributions, if any. If the grant will support an ongoing activity, explain how it will be funded in the future. Quotes for the cleaning of the HVAC units and Ductwork have been obtained by the Shelter Manager at a cost of approximately $4,500 to complete the work. At present we are providing routine maintenance in the form of changing all HVAC filters at a cost of $400 quarterly out of our operating budget. We do not presently have the resources set aside for the work requested in this grant. If the grant funds are Tess than the $4,500 required for the job, we will seek additional matching funds from our list of donors. As our shelter resolves its financial difficulties of the past, we are confident that we will have the resources in the future to maintain these HVAC units to the manufacturer's recommendations out of our operating budget.
