Event: 1 Heart Central Oregon — September 25th, 2010
Organization: The Heart Campaign/Westside Church
The Heart Campaign: We are a faith -based initiative, whose goal is to facilitate positive change in our
region through days of volunteer service and uniting community events. For the past kw years, The
Heart Campaign has partnered with cities throughout Central Oregon to organize. service projects and
concert events that are tailored to each community's specific needs. The Heart Campaign has partnered
with Bend, Sisters, Prineville, LaPine, Burns, Madras and Redmond. Through the organizing and event
days in each of the cities, The Heart Campaign has had the honor of partnering with over 60
community organization and 70 churches to successfully impact the people of Central Oregon.
Description of the Event: I Heart Central Oregon is a non-profit event in September 2010 that will
ignite acts of service throughout the Central Oregon area. The service projects planned are specifically
designed to bring people together in an event that will spark community pride and an interest in helping
those in need.
We are expecting thousands to participate, as 1 Heart Bend alone drew 3,000 attendees last year. l Heart
Central Oregon will be the culmination of 2 years of service events in our region and will take place in
Bend, Redmond, Madras, Prineville, Sisters, and Lapine. On the day of the event, thousands of
volunteers in the participating cities throughout Central Oregon will serve their communities through
various service projects. At 7:00pm, thousands more will gather for a concert commemorating the day
of service through music, inspirational speaking, and a multimedia showcase from each city.
The evening "celebration of service" event will feature music by local band Elliot. Since 2007 the
members of Elliot have played a large role in the formation of The Heart Campaign, A five -piece band
from Bend, Oregon, Elliot plays energetic, acoustic rock music with a heart for social justice and a
desire to see positive change in communities where they play.
Keynote speaker for the evening is Nick Vujicic. Born in 1982 in Melbourne, Australia, without any
medical explanation or warning, Nick Vujicic (pronounced Voy-a-chich) came into the world with
neither arms or legs. Sharing his story with millions of people around the world, Nick speaks to a range
of different groups such as students, teachers, youth, businessmen and women, entrepreneurs, and
church congregations of all sizes. This year alone Nick is set to speak in over 20 countries. Through
Nick's speaking, people of all ages and backgrounds are learning how to overcome adversity and
persevere under any circumstance.
Each city will be highlighted with a multimedia showcase celebrating the service that occurred
throughout Central Oregon. This event will bring Central Oregon together in a unique and powerful
way.

Regional Impact: Our goal is to positively impact thousands of people throughout Central Oregon. For
those who volunteer their time and resources to participate there is a sense of community pride and
knowledge that they helped their neighbors through difficult times. For those who receive aid, we know
from past events that words cannot express how much it means to them to have their communities rally
around them to accomplish what they could not have.
During our past events, we have had the pleasure of partnering with local businesses. For 1 Heart
Central Oregon. we are encouraging local businesses to get involved by sponsoring projects and
creating project teams. Incentives for sponsorship are marketing opportunities (radio, banners at events,
and viability at the project sites). We are also distributing fee tickets to the evening event at the Expo
Center to businesses who sponsor so they may give them to customers to increase traffic to their
establishment and conununity awareness of their service or product.
Last year in Bend alone 1,500 volunteers were organized and over 50 service projects completed. An
additional 1,000 volunteers were organized in surrounding cities over the last two years. In Bend, we
were able to build a Habitat for Humanity house, In Prineville, we successfully cleaned and enhanced
local parks. We also were able to come to the aid elderly residents by cleaning their homes. In Sisters,
hundreds of pounds of food was gathered and distributed to those in need. We also helped local
businesses by cleaning their offices. In Redmond, crews repainted the Boys and Girls Club and
distributed $500 in food cards. These are just a small sample of what we have been able to accomplish
in these cities. Our goal for 1 Heart Central Oregon is to continue to enhance the lives of the citizen of
our regionthrough similar projects and the addition of many more.
