Project Name: From Timber to Turned Wood Project Description: These grant funds will be used in support of the From Timber to Turned Wood event, which the Chamber is hosting in conjunction with Oregon's 150th Birthday Celebration. The event will showcase the community of Sisters' transition from a timber community to a tourism, as well as arts and culture -based economy. It will include a lumberjack show, wood artists and live music. Describe the applicant organization, including its purpose, leadership structure, and activities. The Sisters Area Chamber of Commerce was founded in 1974 in Sisters, Oregon to enhance the economic vitality of the Sisters Country through business advocacy, tourism development and promotion and community support. The Sisters Chamber is a federal not-for-profit 501-c6 organization as recognized by the Internal Revenue Service. The Chamber has a 12 member board of directors; two full- time staff members; one part-time staff person; an intern position; and several volunteers. Several of the staff and board members are well -versed in tourism promotion and grant management. 2. Described the proposed project or activity In conjunction with Oregon's 150th Birthday Celebration the Sisters Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting From Timber to Turned Wood. This event will showcase the community of Sisters transition from a logging/timber community to both tourism and an arts & culture based economy. From Timber to Turned Wood will feature a Lumberjack Show, wood artists, live music with the Sisters Folk Festival, and more. The goal of the event is to connect the Sisters Country's rich past as a lumber town, to its fabulous present as a visitor destination. Locals and visitors alike enjoy of the forests surrounding the Sisters Country. The event hopes to encompass a combination of sustainable forestry techniques, talented wood artists, and a showcase of other unique local uses for the log. 3. Explain how the proposed project or activity will impact the community's economic health. The Sisters Country economic base is strongly rooted in tourism. From Timber to Turned Wood will help to drive new and returning visitors to the region for a unique, fun and educational experience. This event will also spur local and regional Central Oregon interest and increase the number of people in Sisters during November, a typically slower month. An increased number of visitors to Sisters and the surrounding areas will increase the volume of sales for the local merchants and hoteliers and ultimately increase year-round revenues. This will, in turn, encourage business growth and development throughout the Sisters Country. S.
