DESCHUTES COUNTY BICYCLE AND PEDESTRIAN ADVISORY COMMITTEE
West County/Sisters Agency Coordination Summit
Thursday, May 7, 2015 - Noon to 1:30pm

Call to Order
Meeting was called to order at 12:05 p.m.
Introductions
Approval of Prior Minutes
April 2, 2015 meeting minutes were unanimously approved as revised.
Inventory Project Progress Report, Bill Braly
Bill, Michelle, and Chris have met as a subgroup discussing this project and provided an
update. A flow chart, existing example reporting sites, and new reporting web form were
distributed and discussed. They indicated the inventory should be comprehensive and include
all jurisdictions. There was group discussion regarding logistics and utility of comment
submissions and responding to the submissions. Scott Beaird offered to explore creating an
interactive mapping tool similar to the tool Kittleson created for the City of Redmond.
Bend Bike and Pedestrian Count, Jovi Anderson, Bend MPO
Jovi provided a project update and distributed a flier. Jeff suggested including a count at
Hawthorne Station. Merging of other count apps and programs were discussed to provide
ease of and encourage reporting.
Safety Implementation Plan update, Robin Lewis, City of Bend
Scott Beaird provided a power point presentation of preferred bicycle and pedestrian safety
improvement alternatives for several intersections throughout Bend.

Media releases: BPAC Position & Tri County Summit announcement
Roundtable Updates
La Pine: Meetings held with the City of La Pine Chamber of Commerce and Michael Duncan
of ODOT to discuss hub project. There is strong support for the for the project from the
mayor and other leadership.
Redmond: The City has been chosen for “Sustainable Cities Initiative” by University of Oregon
and students are working on several projects; A new curb ramp design has developed and
constructed.
Deschutes County: May is historic preservation month and a free, guided group ride event is
scheduled for May 9th; Road department will begin chip seal maintenance projects this
month. Smaller rock will be used on shoulders and bike lanes and lane widths will be
reduced to 12 feet where possible. Contact the road department for more information.
ODOT: Central Oregon Trail Alliance (COTA) spring fling trail building and maintenance event
is May 9th.
Commute Options: Lead a mobile bike tour of Bend with Dan Burnham and planners from
Hawaii; The concept of blue zones was highlighted.
COIC/CET: Deschutes National Forest Alternative Transportation Study complete; Ride the
River shuttle serve is expanding to 7 days a week; New rider guided have been printed.
